New York City’s MTA recently announced a full slate of access upgrades to three Harlem Metro-Railroad Stations and three Queens Long Island Railroad Stations. These upgrades will include the addition of street and platform elevators, accessible sidewalks, accessible parking and curb-cuts.
“We are using every tool at our disposal to make stations accessible with modernized equipment that will provide customers with smoother and reliable service,” said MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer.
The Harlem Metro-North Railroad upgrades include:
Scarsdale Station
- Accessible sidewalk to the street level elevator
- Accessible elevator installed on inbound platform
- Accessible walkway from elevator to station platform and overpass
Hartsdale Station
- Two accessible elevators from street level to the platforms
- Accessible sidewalk to the street level elevators
- Accessible walkway from the elevators to the overpass
Purdy’s Station
- Accessible elevator on the north end of the parking lot
- Accessible sidewalk from elevator to station entrance
The Queens Long Island Railroad upgrades include:
Locust Manor Station
- One accessible elevator to the eastbound platform
- One accessible elevator to the westbound platform
- Accessible sidewalks to the elevators
Laurelton Station
- An accessible elevator to the platform
- An accessible sidewalk to the elevator
St. Albans Station
- An accessible elevator to the platform
- An accessible sidewalk to the elevator from both entrances
- Accessible parking near the new elevator
These access upgrades are part of the ongoing work of the MTA Capital Program.
