Royal Caribbean has informed its guests that, due to port construction in Skagway, the Radiance of the Seas will be docking at an alternate pier. To ensure everyone’s safety in an area prone to rockslides, all guests will be tendered into the harbor.
While this adjustment might be a minor inconvenience for most cruisers, it poses a significant challenge for wheelchair and scooter users, constituting a major roadblock. Unless guests have a fold-up wheelchair and can manage a few steps, they won’t be permitted ashore.
For individuals in the disabled community, being told “no” is particularly distressing, as it contradicts our inherent drive, especially considering that if the ship were docked at another pier, wheelchair and scooter users could disembark.
My heart goes out to those in my community aboard the Radiance of the Seas. I can only hope that Skagway’s construction concludes swiftly, restoring normalcy to Alaska.
