I will visit Aruba May 7, 2023. Since I now have the option of using my Scootaround scooter, or a light weight power wheel chair, I have begun investigating accessible excursions. Most of my past cruises had little or no accessible excursions and almost all of the Norwegian Joy recommended ones are not accessible. Please understand I am in no way endorsing any of those listed as I have not done any of them yet. But if you are going there and looking for yourself, maybe my findings will give you a leg up in finding an excursion in Aruba.
The first problem to overcome is location. I have only found accessible excursions from Noord, not Oranjestad where the cruise ship docks. Noord is about 6 miles away, 15 minutes by bus.
The Bus Terminal is right in front of the port exit, public buses are affordable, have stops next to the most popular beaches, and taxis are not the rip-off found in many other Caribbean ports.
Sailing and Snorkeling Experience with Drinks
Visit two of Aruba’s most prominent snorkeling spots on a tranquil cruise. The catamaran has everything you could need for a fun-filled adventure from snorkeling equipment, to sunbathing trampolines, to plenty of drinks and snacks. The first stop, Boca Catalina Bay, includes the island’s most beautiful cove. Grab a mask and snorkel and discover the tremendous diversity of colorful fish and other marine life. Next, cast off towards the famous shipwreck of the “SS Antilla,” a German cargo ship that was sunk in 1940 during World War II. The Antilla is the largest shipwreck in the Caribbean and is very accessible to snorkelers. In the last half-century, the ship has been covered by tube sponges and coral formations, becoming the permanent residence of tropical fish, shrimp, lobsters, and orange anemones. It is truly an unforgettable snorkeling experience.
Champagne Brunch and Aqua Safari
After gathering at the Pelican Pier, meet your crew and board your vessel. From there, begin your experience receiving an up-close view of nature, leaving your worries behind as you indulge in refreshing mimosas on a custom-built catamaran. Your vessel comes fully equipped with sunbathing trampolines and shaded areas, and whilst out on the water you are served a savory breakfast on board. Sip a mixed drink whilst enjoying your delicious seafood paella lunch, and go snorkeling at several of the best spots in Aruba. Some highlights include Boca Catalina, the Antilla Shipwreck, and the Malmok Reef. Your relaxing and colorful day out on the water later concludes as you return back to the tour starting location.
Note: There are numerous excursions in both Noord and Oranjestad but show not recommended for wheelchair users.
