All across the country, from small towns to major cities, people gather in recognition of Independence Day. The festivities range from parades and concerts to picnics and barbecues with family and friends. One of the most accessible ways to participate in the 4th of July celebration is viewing a sky filled with bursting fireworks. With the holiday landing on a Monday this year, make your plans for a long weekend getaway.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
The capital of Louisiana, Baton Rouge, hosts an annual fireworks show downtown. Located beside the mighty Mississippi, the illumination fills the sky and is reflected in the river’s waters. With a choice of several downtown hotels, visitors can easily walk to a nearby viewing spot. Another option is to book a guest room at L’Auberge Casino Hotel and choose from three different viewing options: rooftop pool, promenade, or the lawn. Spend the night in one of the hotel’s accessible rooms–ask for a river view.
Boston, Massachusettes
Boston throws the country’s best birthday bash with family-friendly events July 1-4. The Boston Harborfest 2022 celebrates the nation’s independence on the streets where it happened. The mayor kicks off the event that includes an art market, classic car show, musical performances, roving historical reenactments, parade, and fireworks launched from a barge at Boston’s Long Wharf—visible from most of the harbor. On the 4th of July, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular takes place at the Hatch Memorial Shell on the Esplanade.
Branson, Missouri
